MANDO ProjectsWe are working with MANDO (Matonyok Nomads Development Organization), located in Karen, Kenya, that works in the southern Rift Valley. MANDO is a young, rapidly growing nonprofit NGO addressing local challenges. Its nomadic, pastoral Maasai people face such a severe drought that they are forced to become more agriculturally based. This means reliable water sources must be close to evolving communities. MANDO is looking to help with this adjustment and help overcome root causes of poverty, introduce sustainable methods of subsistence, improve education and gender equality. Its highly effective approach is based on encouraging and enabling the people in planning and decision making. Its Board is comprised of community members who volunteer time and effort. MANDO maintains openness and accountability.

MANDO Project 1: Support School Fees for Girls Escaping FGM
Mando is building a SafeHouse for girls escaping FGM. Young orphans up to adolescents threatened by genital mutilation and early marriage will be housed in the SafeHouse. A housekeeper will look after 20 girls aged 5-15 at alternative living quarters named Silan (Maasai for "girl"). It will be their home 24/7 apart from the time at Kimelok primary school or Ewuaso high school. They can live there while being able to finish high school. Donations support hosting the girl in the safe house as well as pays for her high school fees so that she may attend school.
MANDO Project 2: Support a Child's School Fees
MANDO helps raise money for high school fees that local Maasai families cannot afford.

MANDO Project 3: Support the SafeHouse & School Farm Project
MANDO is building a SafeHouse for girls escaping FGM, which is connected with local schools for the girls to attend. They have a plan to create a sustainable means of supporting the costs of housing the girl, as well as sending them to school. The Farm Project aims to be a special income generating activity for the SafeHouse and Enkoireroi school. Their project consists of planting trees and crops for food, and starting a small farm of goats and chickens. You can support this project by sponsoring some of these supplies.
